3R – Recognize. Resist. Rise up.

Women in Public Life – Without Violence

What happens when a woman speaks out in public life?

What do women experience as they work for their communities as local council members, mayors, members of parliament, civil society leaders, or activists?

Online and offline harassment, threats, smear campaigns, and intimidation targeting women are not merely individual problems. They are democratic issues. Every attack that seeks to deter women from taking on roles in public life weakens democratic participation.

The goal of the international 3R – Recognise, Resist, Rise Up project (link SOON) is to bring this often-hidden phenomenon to light and contribute to the creation of a safer, fairer, and more inclusive public life in Europe. In the project, researchers, civil society organizations, and experts from five countries collaborated to explore how gender-based violence manifests in politics, what forms it takes, what consequences it has for women, and what solutions can help bring about change. The research and professional work in Hungary was carried out by the JÓL-LÉT Foundation.

We are looking for male allies

Change is not solely the responsibility of women. One of the most important insights of the 3R project is that male politicians, journalists, leaders, experts, and opinion leaders must also play an active role in curbing public violence against women.

That is why we are launching the Male Pledge – Men Allies for a Safer Public Life initiative.

Signatories commit to:

standing up against harassment and violence against women,

speaking out against sexist and degrading communication in public life,

support the development of a respectful and inclusive public culture,

and lead by example within their own organizations and communities.

Change requires not only more women, but more allies as well! COMING SOON! [JOIN THE MALE PLEDGE CALL TO ACTION] COMING SOON!

Our Common Cause

The JÓL-LÉT Foundation has been working for more than twenty years to promote women’s equal participation in the workplace, the economy, and public life. The 3R project is part of this work: an expression of the conviction that women’s safety, dignity, and participation are not just women’s issues, but one of the most important indicators of the quality of a democratic society.
