The pass for families with young children was introduced in Budapest’s public transportation system in 2008 at the initiative of our foundation.
After the Budapest Metropolitan Assembly Decree No. 27/2008 (IV.30.), on August 26, 2008, starting at the opening of the ticket offices, the issuance of pass cards for parents with young children began, and pass tickets went on sale at the ticket offices of BKV Zrt.
Eligibility for the monthly pass for parents with young children applies to persons with a registered address in Budapest, as verified by an official residence certificate, who are receiving childcare allowance (GYES) or child-rearing support (GYET).
Eligibility for the pass for parents with young children can be verified by presenting the original certificate or determination of benefits received from the paying agency, which must not be older than 6 months. At BKV Zrt. ticket offices, eligible individuals must be issued a “small child” pass, which is valid for one year, but no longer than the duration of benefit payments. Upon expiration, the pass may be renewed if eligibility continues, which requires re-verification of eligibility. The extended validity period may also not exceed the duration of benefit payments.
After the expiration of the child pass, if the start date of the validity of the child pass coupon used therein is earlier than or at most the same as the expiration date of the child pass, the pass may still be used until the end of the coupon’s validity.
